I love this, Emily-- so curious to see where it goes! I've changed my approach to writing in the past couple of years (not quite ungrading, but everything graded can be rewritten. Whatever the final grade is stands; no averaging). It's definitely made writing feel like more of a process of feedback and revision and less a matter of evaluating. I like the developing/proficient/excellent framework on your rubric. Seems like a good way to frame it.

Thanks, Jane, so glad you're here! That sounds like a great system, and I'd love to hear more from you about the challenges of alternative grading in K12 writing courses. I have many, many mixed feelings about my rubrics, which I'll discuss in later posts! Can't wait to talk further.
